SMOKE AND SOOT CLEANUP
Where does soot end up after a fire?
Every surface the smoke touched, and smoke travels. Upper walls and ceilings first, then inside cabinets, closets, ductwork, and behind pictures. A furnace puff-back can coat an entire house in fine oily soot with no fire at all. A candle or a pan fire in the kitchen leaves residue in bedrooms at the other end of the house. We inspect the whole structure, not just the room that burned.

WHAT TO KNOW
Why are there different kinds of soot?
What burned decides the residue. Fast, hot fires of natural materials leave dry, powdery soot that vacuums and dry-sponges off. Slow, smoldering fires and burning plastics leave wet, smeary soot that smears into a permanent stain if it is wiped the wrong way. Fuel oil puff-backs leave a sticky film. Protein fires from cooking leave a nearly invisible residue with a strong smell. Using the wrong method on the wrong soot ruins the surface, which is why this is skilled work.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS
What should you avoid doing?

Do not wipe soot with a wet rag, do not run the furnace or air conditioner, and do not try to wash walls with household cleaner. Each of those turns removable residue into a stain. Leave the windows and the HVAC alone and call.
Smoke and soot cleanup is part of fire damage restoration. Removing the smell is its own job: smoke odor removal.

A new brand, not a new team. VetDry is owned by Anthony Brown, an Army infantry veteran who spent four and a half years managing two locations of a large national restoration franchise in Indiana. Production Manager Zachary Brown came up as a technician and production manager in franchise restoration. Together the team brings nearly 10 years of combined experience, plus working relationships with local insurance professionals, adjusters, and plumbers.
