BURST PIPE WATER DAMAGE

Why do pipes burst in
western Kentucky?

Our winters are mild most of the time, which is exactly why they catch people. Houses here are not built for a week of single digits. Supply lines in crawl spaces, exterior walls, garages, and unheated additions freeze first. The January 2009 ice storm took power out for weeks across the region, and a house with no heat for that long freezes from the outside in. Pipes rarely burst while they are frozen. They burst when they thaw.

HOW IT WORKS

What should you do the moment you find a burst pipe?

01

Shut off the water at the main

Then open a faucet to relieve pressure.

02

Cut power if water reached outlets

If water reached outlets, panels, or appliances, cut power to that area at the breaker.

03

Call a plumber and call VetDry

Call a plumber for the pipe and call VetDry for the water. The two jobs happen in parallel.

04

Take photos first

Take photos of the pipe and the damage before anything gets cleaned up.

05

Tell us what happened

A person answers, and you get a real arrival window.

06

We take it from there

Extraction, removal of what cannot be saved, and drying equipment set where the readings say it belongs.

WHAT TO KNOW

What does VetDry do that
a plumber does not?

The plumber fixes the pipe. We fix what the water did. That means finding every wet cavity with a moisture meter, including the ones behind finished walls and under floors, extracting standing water, removing insulation and drywall that will not dry, setting the right drying equipment, and monitoring until the structure is actually dry. A pipe fix without proper drying is how a burst pipe in February becomes a mold job in June.

What separates VetDry from the rest?

Rapid response, experienced mitigation, clear communication, and doing what is right for the property owner. That is the whole company, in the owner's own words.

Rapid Emergency Response

A person answers the phone and you get a real arrival window, not a promise off a website.

Dry Means Measured

Equipment comes out when the meter says dry, not when the calendar does. You get the log.

Clear Communication

You will know what is wet, what is drying, and what comes next, at every step.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

How do you prevent the next one?

Insulate exposed lines in crawl spaces and garages, know where your main shutoff is before you need it, keep the heat on when you travel, and let faucets drip on the coldest nights. If your house lost power for days in the past, ask us to look at the crawl space and exterior walls while we are there. We will tell you where the next freeze is most likely to find you.

This is a common type of water damage restoration. When a burst pipe soaks a basement, see basement and crawl space water damage. A new brand, not a new team. VetDry is owned by Anthony Brown, an Army infantry veteran who spent four and a half years managing two locations of a large national restoration franchise in Indiana. Production Manager Zachary Brown came up as a technician and production manager in franchise restoration. Together the team brings nearly 10 years of combined experience, plus working relationships with local insurance professionals, adjusters, and plumbers.
